April Showers Bring May Flowers

After a long winter and quite a bit of isolation, we are looking forward to the warm weather and finally being able to go outside again and enjoy this beautiful and hopeful time of the year. Unfortunately, we are currently in the middle of  yet another lockdown and have been advised to stay inside. According to covid-19.ontario.ca website these are the guidelines of lockdown restrictions:

  • stay home as much as possible
  • limit close contact to your household (the people you live with) and stay at least 2 metres apart from everyone else
  • limit trips outside your home to necessities, such as:
    • getting food or medication
    • going to medical appointments
    • supporting vulnerable community members
    • child care
    • getting exercise or walking pets

In this regard, can we still enjoy the beauty of spring? While it may not be the same, the answer is ultimately  yes, we can still enjoy the beauty of the season. Fortunately, there are a few things we can do to pass the time and keep healthy or improve our  health. According to the above guidelines set by the government we are still able to go outside for exercise. In fact, walking outdoors is one of the best types of exercises, so take a deep breath of fresh air while enjoying the beauty of  nature.

Another way to enjoy spring inside your home, is by buying some potted spring flowers like Tulips, Hyacinths, Daffodils, or other in season flowers. These plants are sure to bring colour, light and a whimsical sense of joy that  will not let you forget that spring has finally arrived.

There’s nothing better than the fresh air of spring. Oxygen is vital for living. The density of oxygen outside can not even be compared to the levels of oxygen inside. Since we are limited when it comes to going outdoors, we can instead open our windows for the fresh air to freely flow throughout the home. Yet another way to bring spring indoors!

As the old saying says, “April showers bring May flowers.” We are hoping the same for this current lockdown! We can look at this lockdown with hope just as we look at the April showers where we are limited in what we are able to do, or where we are able to go. Nonetheless, after the showers we are looking forward to the flowers!

Have a safe and happy spring!
